Once you’ve properly charged the battery, you can remove the wires and put it in a container of water for some time to ensure that it’s conducting electricity correctly. You can then test it with a voltmeter to make sure that the battery is working and that you’re getting a good current from the wires.

Depending on the type of battery you’re making, you may need to adjust the voltage to ensure that it’s functioning at its best. Some batteries, such as lithium-ion cells, require a higher voltage than others to produce the same amount of energy.
